Patients who experience the pain and discomfort from plantar fasciitis may be interested in receiving shockwave therapy. Typical symptoms of this condition can include severe pain upon arising in the morning, and difficulty walking and performing daily activities. It is a treatment that consists of applying low energy acoustic waves to the affected area. Research has indicated it may accelerate the natural healing process, and may reduce chronic pain that is associated with many foot conditions. After a large amount of gel is applied to the affected area, an applicator is easily rolled over the injury, and the tissues can begin to be regenerated. If you have chronic foot pain, it is strongly suggested to speak to a podiatrist who can help you to determine if shockwave therapy is correct for you.

Shockwave therapy is a treatment commonly used to treat various injuries and conditions, particularly plantar fasciitis in the feet. To learn more, consult with Dr. Edwin S. Hart from Pennsylvania. Our doctor can provide the care you need to keep you pain-free and on your feet.

Shockwave Therapy

Shockwave therapy is a new treatment option designed to treat bone conditions such as tennis elbow, shoulder pain, and others. Shockwave therapy uses high intensity sound waves that are directed to the affected tissues of the body with pinpoint accuracy. The effects are very beneficial, leading to a production of collagen fibers, eliminating inflammation.

Who Benefits from Shockwave?

Shockwave is recommended for patients suffering from heel pain and associated problems. Heel pain is a common condition which can be caused by obesity, overexertion, and spending a substantial amount of time on hard floors with your feet exposed and unsupported.

Fast and Easy

The therapy is actually a simple process that can leave patients feeling better the very next day. Shockwave therapy is not as dramatic as it sounds. It enables more blood flow to effected areas, addressing the source of the problem and allowing treatment to last for a long time.

Treatment & Recovery Time

Shockwave treatment will enable your feet to recover quickly. This is especially important since surgery is not required. It is cost effective and does not require the use of anesthesia. This treatment is a better option to surgery, since it is proven safe.

To avoid dealing with issues such as foot and ankle pain, muscle soreness, and to improve the overall health of your feet, it is recommended that you perform foot exercises. When you perform exercises designed for the feet, you help to strengthen the foot muscles, which may provide better support, stability, and protection. One simple exercise you can do is called the three-step “toe raise, point, and curl.” Imagine you’re making little waves with your toes when trying out this exercise. Another exercise is called the “toe splay,” where you practice by spreading all of your toes. Lastly, you can try “toe extensions” which is done by grabbing your toes with your fingers and gently pulling them backwards. If you are concerned with the health of your feet, or would like information about additional stretches, we recommend that you consult with a podiatrist.

Exercising your feet regularly with the proper foot wear is a great way to prevent injuries and build strength. If you have any concerns about your feet, contact Dr. Edwin S. Hart from Pennsylvania. Our doctor can provide the care you need to keep you pain-free and on your feet.

Exercise for Your Feet

Exercise for your feet can help you gain strength, mobility and flexibility in your feet. They say that strengthening your feet can be just as rewarding as strengthening another part of the body. Some foot health exercises can include ankle pumps, tip-toeing, toe rises, lifting off the floor doing reps and sets, and flexing the toes. It is best to speak with Our doctor to determine an appropriate regimen for your needs. Everyone’s needs and bodies are different, and the activities required to maintain strength in the feet vary from individual to individual.

Once you get into a routine of doing regular exercise, you may notice a difference in your feet and how strong they may become.

Foot Pain and the Holidays

People who have experienced foot pain are aware of the general discomfort that may be felt in the overall body. This may be a result of the weight the feet endure for the majority of the day. Additionally, patients who have chronic foot pain may be familiar with depression, the fear of falling, and it may be difficult to perform daily activities.  Many patients have pain in the arch and heel area. This can be indicative of plantar fasciitis or heel spurs. The holiday season may bring with it the possibility of developing a stress fracture. This can be a result of walking or standing for extended periods of time, dancing at parties while wearing high heels, or rushing through stores. Mild relief may be found from general foot pain when the feet are gently massaged. If you have any type of foot pain, it is advised that you seek the counsel of a podiatrist who can properly treat foot conditions.

What Is Gout?

Research has indicated that gout may be common among men who are over forty years of age. It often causes severe pain and discomfort, and is considered to be a disabling form of arthritis. It can target individuals who are overweight, or people who have medical conditions that can include diabetes and high blood pressure. Additionally, genetics may play a significant role in developing gout. This ailment can occur from having excess uric acid in the blood, and may come from eating foods that have elevated purine levels. This may cause crystals to develop and lodge in the joints of the big toe. These types of foods can include red meat, shellfish, and drinks that are alcoholic or have high sugar levels. There may be lifestyle changes that can be implemented which may help in reducing the risk of developing gout. These can consist of eating healthy foods, and practicing a gentle exercise routine. If you have gout, it is strongly advised that you seek the counsel of a podiatrist who can properly treat this condition.

Gout is a foot condition that requires certain treatment and care. If you are seeking treatment, contact Dr. Edwin S. Hart from Pennsylvania. Our doctor will treat your foot and ankle needs.

What Is Gout?

Gout is a type of arthritis caused by a buildup of uric acid in the bloodstream. It often develops in the foot, especially the big toe area, although it can manifest in other parts of the body as well. Gout can make walking and standing very painful and is especially common in diabetics and the obese.

People typically get gout because of a poor diet. Genetic predisposition is also a factor. The children of parents who have had gout frequently have a chance of developing it themselves.

Gout can easily be identified by redness and inflammation of the big toe and the surrounding areas of the foot. Other symptoms include extreme fatigue, joint pain, and running high fevers. Sometimes corticosteroid drugs can be prescribed to treat gout, but the best way to combat this disease is to get more exercise and eat a better diet.
